A major component to the work of the Fresh Office is to develop and deliver effective media campaigns, social marketing and media advocacy. These have been one of the keys to success elsewhere e.g. in California the program involved ongoing sustained hard hitting media campaigns focussed on shifting public opinion. This was part of the overall goal to change social norms - by indirectly influencing current and potential future tobacco users by creating a social milieu and legal climates in which tobacco becomes: less desirable, less acceptable and less accessible.

There is also good work underway in England, in educating the public about the dangers of smoking and also in promoting the availability of the NHS Stop Smoking Services. The Department of Health is leading on these campaigns. 

It is vital that Fresh is a key player in the agenda and is regarded as a strong united brand with ownership by its key stakeholders. Fresh also plays a powerful advocacy role and was heavily involved in campaigns to support comprehensive legislation to protect all workers from exposure to second hand smoke. Fresh will speak with many voices but with consistent strong evidence based messages.

A Communications and Media Working Plan is in place and this will be updated on a regular basis.
