The North East regional smoking and young people group was established in September 2007. It is made up of representatives from statutory and voluntary groups and organisations, all of whom have a role to play in reducing smoking among young people. The group meets quarterly and is currently chaired by Judith MacMorran of Newcastle PCT. The minutes from these meetings can be found below.

Tackling smoking among young people is one part of a comprehensive tobacco control programme. Initially the group is considering the evidence of how to approach this issue effectively. One of its first tasks has been to map the work being undertaken across the region to tackle smoking and young people and assess this against the evidence. The results of this mapping will be use to inform the development of a programme of action for the north east on preventing smoking among young people.
