The campaign in 2012 ran across TV, radio, press and digital - with free resources for partners. In 2013 every council in the North East has got behind the campaign and encouraged local smokers and staff to quit.

Fresh ensured Stoptober remained in the public eye and took the big red Stoptober stop sign and Stoptober space-hoppers on tour across the North East to visit every council with help from quitters and staff from NHS Stop Smoking Services to encourage people to join in and give quitting a go. We also celebrated some of the inspiring stories of people who quit last year for Stoptober, as well as the incredible quitting story of ultra marathon runner Tony the Fridge.

People were able to take advantage of more free online support than ever, including a Stoptober website kit, a daily messaging service and quitting app for PCs and smartphones. To register all you have to do is click on

The national Stoptober roadshow also visited Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough to encourage people to stop while they shop. People were able to register for Stoptober and get a detailed 28-day step-by-step programme to support them in their smokefree attempt.  Stop smoking advisers were on hand to provide advice and support to help people quit.
